UMR Comments on NIH Funding in House FY2027 Labor-HHS Bill

June 5, 2026

United for Medical Research appreciates the House L-HHS Subcommittee’s efforts to increase NIH funding in the FY27 bill and applauds the rejection of proposed cuts which would have been devastating to America’s ability to treat and cure our most vexing diseases. However, we remain concerned about the inability of NIH to keep up with medical inflation and recommend $51.3 billion for NIH in FY27.  Another year of flat funding would mean fewer research projects, reduced opportunities for our next generation of researchers, negative economic consequences, and the loss of America’s role as the global leader in biomedical research.

We look forward to continuing to work with House and Senate Appropriators to ensure that NIH is funded at a strong and sustainable level.
