UMR Applauds Bipartisan Senate LHHS Appropriations Bill that Supports Strong NIH Funding

July 31, 2025

United for Medical Research applauds the Senate Appropriations Committee’s bipartisan approval of increased funding for the National Institutes of Health in the FY26 Labor, Health and Human Services and Education appropriations bill.

UMR is especially grateful to Senators Capito, Baldwin, Collins and Murray for their leadership and for prioritizing the NIH and the vital research it supports. Today’s action offers hope to patients and families everywhere affected by disease and is a strong signal of support to the hundreds of thousands of scientists across the United States who have devoted their careers to pursuing research for the public good.

UMR urges the Senate to move quickly this fall toward full Senate passage.

UMR is a coalition of leading research institutions, patient and health advocates, and private industry seeking steady and sustainable increases in funding for the National Institutes of Health in order to save and improve lives, advance innovation, and fuel the economy.
