We are disappointed in the White House’s proposal to cut more than $5 billion from the budget for the National Institutes of Health (NIH).
NIH research saves and improves lives, trains a highly skilled research workforce, drives our local and national economies, and keeps America the world leader of biomedical innovation. A cut of this magnitude would imperil this unmatched success.
Thankfully, Congress recognizes the incredible return on investment of funding for medical research, and in a bipartisan fashion, it has consistently provided strong and consistent funding for the NIH. United for Medical Research is working with members of Congress to ensure that steady and predictable funding for NIH remains a national priority.
