With the release of the FY2026 L-HHS Appropriations bill today, United for Medical Research (UMR) applauds the increase in funding for the National Institutes of Health, especially during a time of fiscal austerity in Washington. In bipartisan and bicameral fashion, Appropriations Committee members have once again asserted that biomedical research is a top national priority, and the momentum for discovering cures and life-saving treatments must continue.
UMR is grateful to Appropriations Committee Chairs Tom Cole and Susan Collins, and Ranking Members Rosa DeLauro and Patty Murray for their longstanding commitment and passion for advancing biomedical research across the United States. We are also thankful for the hard work and dedication of L-HHS Subcommittee Chairs Robert Aderholt and Shelley Moore Capito, and Ranking Member Tammy Baldwin. Their leadership is critical to advancing biomedical research in every community.
UMR urges swift passage of the L-HHS Appropriations bill in the House and Senate and looks forward to the President’s signature.
UMR is a coalition of leading research institutions, patient and health advocates, and private industry seeking steady and sustainable increases in funding for the National Institutes of Health to save and improve lives, advance innovation, and fuel the economy.
