UMR Thanks Sen. Katie Britt and Co-Signers Calling for Full Implementation of FY25 Appropriated Funds for NIH

July 29, 2025

In response to Sen. Katie Britt’s July 24 letter to OMB Director Russell Vought, UMR sent a letter thanking the Senator for requesting the timely release of all FY’25 NIH funds.

The letter says, in part: As you so accurately described, withholding or suspending FY’25 NIH funds for medical research would hinder progress on critical health challenges facing our nation. NIH sits at the center of America’s vaunted biomedical innovation ecosystem, facilitating and conducting research, training the next generation of biomedical innovators, fueling critical U.S. industries, and supporting our national security. Medical breakthroughs constitute the ripple effect of NIH research funding – cumulative knowledge built over time, leading to discoveries and innovations that save and improve lives, strengthen our economy, and bolster our global standing.

Similar letters of appreciation were sent to the 13 Senators who signed onto her letter:

  • Sen. Susan Collins
  • Sen. Shelley Moore Capito
  • Sen. Mitch McConnell
